Unbowed Wilfried Nancy insists he is not worried about being fired yet the Parkhead faithful show anger following loss.

The under-pressure manager stated he did not fear dismissal, claiming, “We are very near to things turning around,” in the wake of sliding worryingly close to the chopping block with a heavy setback against the Ibrox side.

The home side were ahead their oldest rivals at half-time but a collapse after the break allowed Rangers to move level on points with the current Scottish Premiership champions. The former MLS manager, who was brought in from Columbus Crew, has now presided over six defeats in his last eight games.

“The board and I are united with the board,” said Nancy.

Asked directly about his own future, the 48-year-old responded: “That’s not my focus. My focus is on finding ways to help my team to excel on details.

Supporters' Anger On Display

Hundreds of supporters made their feelings clear – directed at the board and manager – in their hundreds at Parkhead. Club directors are reportedly likely to return to the former boss, who had a fruitful interim spell last year, if Nancy departs.

“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. And that’s the truth for the moment. However by saying this is the reality, it doesn’t mean that I am pessimistic. No. What I mean the turnaround is near, imminently close to change the narrative.”

“Really, Really Close”

He highlights the fact the side show good levels for one half at a time. In fact, but for poor finishing they would have been better than 1-0 up. “There were positives aside from the fact that we haven’t scored more goals,” he said. “I accept that we lost, but I have also to be objective.

“The standard we had at stages was really, really, really high. This is the reality. I wouldn't speak so positively if it was different. Therefore, in terms of results, I noted it's a repeating pattern. Which is why I feel we are nearly there to getting it right. But for the moment: the fine margins.”

“We produced a lot of encouraging signs that we did, as was the case today. But now it’s about performing for 90 minutes. My outlook would change the same. This is why I am convinced the team can to turn things around.”

The Rangers Boss Stance

The victorious boss played down talk of a championship push even after what seemed like a huge result. “We take it game by game, so we can gradually build something here,” he said. “The belief in the squad is outstanding.”
