A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The campaign hopes to provide aid to people in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he stated. “I’m not gonna be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
The track was produced in the wake of a solidarity show held in September. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the piece was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The impressive roster of performers contributing to Lullaby encompasses a range of acclaimed names from the industry. All were part of the earlier concert, which successfully generated a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Lullaby was crafted by a team of producers and composers. The single blends a combination of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the initiative have clarified that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These donations will be distributed to projects in Palestine through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a figure said. “We’ll go for whatever we can get. Of course, the more the merrier. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The situation in the territory was described as its profound destruction, with a vast majority of infrastructure said to be destroyed or damaged.
“In that context, a handful of millions is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is above all spreading knowledge of this plight and proving that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release this Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a digital service from the 19th of December.
