Rock Climbing in the National Park

Including absolute beginners will soon be ascending protected Peak District rock faces on this weekend program. Abstract Painting in Spain

This historic hillside village, a historic town in Andalucía, about 45 minutes’ drive from Granada, is the stimulating backdrop for this creative getaway. Artists of all abilities – including beginners – will learn how to conceive and execute non-representational pieces. Some time will be spent in the open air, working on guided exercises en plein air. These initial sketches and watercolour studies will then be expanded upon in the workspace, with guests producing several abstract landscapes in acrylics to be shown in the village. Participants has exclusive access of the hotel, which is centered on an open courtyard and has a roof terrace with panoramic vistas over the countryside. The cost covers five days’ painting tuition; full board; and an excursion to the nearby fortress and other points of interest.

Vegetarian Cooking in Portugal

This sun-drenched foodie getaway, located at a villa by the river in the central Algarve, is inspired by the vegetarian dishes of renowned chefs. Attendees will master the art of selection of small dishes, take part in a hands-on falafel session, perfect mid-morning meals such as shakshuka, and make hearty mains like a rich mushroom stew and moussaka. There are visits to the local market and a nearby winery to taste Portuguese wines, combined with free time for walks by the nearby river, to relax on the deck or take a dip in the infinity pool. The villa, a former farmhouse, has multiple rooms, as well as glamping tents in the gardens.

Street Dance in Buckinghamshire

This energetic camp is an uplifting, inclusive three-day dance intensive for adults in High Wycombe. The daily schedule each day is a high-energy group warmup, then several hour-and-a-half classes teaching various urban dance forms, then an hour-long jam to show off new moves. Dancers are divided into levels based on skill level, so it is suitable for those who are completely new to popping and locking, all the way to experienced performers or teachers. This event does not provide lodging but there are a number of places to stay within walking distance, and it is 23-35 minutes by rail into central London.

Maritime Singing Weekend in St Ives

St Ives is the excellent setting for a sea shanty weekend. Guests will learn historic sailing songs from a folk singer and vocal coach, and try their hand at writing their own. The schedule includes voice exercises, breath control techniques, stagecraft advice and a closing performance. The holiday is held in a rural hotel with views of the bay. All meals are provided, such as a traditional tea on arrival, cooked or continental breakfasts, lunches to go and three-course dinners. Traditional rum, unfortunately, is not included. Writing in Crete

Writer and tutor Greg Mosse leads the daily workshops on this writing retreat. He covers everything from story structure, characters, locations and tension, to sending manuscripts to agents. Greg’s wife, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will co-host events at the beginning and end of the week. The retreat is held at a village-style hotel in Vamos at the foot of the White mountains – 10 one- and two-bedroom cottages are set around a central garden with a pool (companions are welcome to share). On the last night, budding authors mark the occasion with a concert in the courtyard and a farewell dinner.

Beginners' Beekeeping in Wales

The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth runs a wide range of programs covering eco-living: from creating habitats to upcycling. This two-day introduction will help attendees learn the fundamentals of beekeeping, study the biology of bees and discover their ecological importance. It is designed to produce “bee-friendly beekeepers”. This course is also a opportunity to de-stress in the organization's carefully maintained woodlands, which are habitat for wildlife, otters, dormice, bats and uncommon bird species. Accommodation the evening prior is 80 pounds, and all meals and lodging during the course is 97 pounds.

Sailing for Novices in Essex

These new weekend sailing courses are spent on Wayfarers and keelboats on the Blackwater estuary. They are aimed at adult beginners starting out or those with some knowledge who want a refresher. Sailors can hone their steering, build their nautical skills and work towards the Royal Yachting Association’s levels one to three in a supportive atmosphere. There are non-residential and overnight options, staying in basic shared rooms in the waterfront sailing school. The non-residential package includes packed lunches, while the residential package covers two nights’ accommodation and all meals, from hearty breakfasts to evening barbecues.
