Fresh particulars have surfaced concerning the shocking deaths of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were located at their Los Angeles home property on Sunday.
As detailed in an account referencing a confidential source, a massage therapist scheduled for an session first raised the alarm after not being able to enter the home. The therapist then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides close by.
Upon entering the house, Romy discovered her father's body. Reports state she then exited the property overwhelmed with grief, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was there as well. Her roommate who had accompanied her contacted 911. Subsequently, first responders located Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Authorities have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of first-degree murder, including the use of a dangerous weapon, said to be a knife. He is presently being held and is ineligible for bail.
The confidential informant also disputed several initial details. They said that while Romy Reiner told emergency responders that her brother Nick resided in a guesthouse on the property, she did not identify him as a suspect at that moment.
The source also disputed widely reported claims that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been particularly "concerned" about Nick's behavior in the preceding period. Rather the family was "used to working through [Nick's] problems together."
This refutation applies to reports of alleged "erratic" conduct by Nick at a party held by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the bodies were found. While the source stated they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "chastised" his son at the party, they asserted that reports of a "major confrontation" between the two were untrue.
According to law enforcement sources, the coroner had still not confirmed at that point whether the Reiners died on Saturday evening or on Sunday. Preliminary accounts suggested the condition of their bodies implied they had been deceased for a number of hours.
Nick Reiner was taken into custody at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park area, about 15 miles from the residence. He was set to be arraigned on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, indicated his client had not been medically cleared and would not be present until Wednesday or later.
