Lindsey Vonn Assured of Being 'perfectly positioned' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "in an excellent position" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, on the back of earning a top-three finish for the fourth time in her last five World Cup events.

The 41-year-old, who achieved a milestone by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result.

Impressive Performance in the French Alps

Returning to the iconic venue for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot.

"I didn't quite have enough direction on the first jump," the skier commented. "Subsequently, I performed strongly. I'm happy with my skiing today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere during the event, having also taken third in the downhill on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Retirement

Vonn officially retired in February 2019 because of ongoing knee problems. However, she made a stunning return in December 2024 following a partial knee replacement.

With less than two months remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's performances are timely.

She already possesses one gold and two bronze medals in her collection and is strongly positioned to represent the United States at the 2026 Games.

"When we get to Cortina, I will be in a good place," Vonn affirmed.

Chasing More Titles

Alongside her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning 20 years.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings.

This season's World Cup campaign features a nine more events scheduled before the season finals in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
